Warner Leroy Baxter (Columbus (Ohio), 29 de marzo de 1889 - Beverly Hills (California), 7 de mayo de 1951) fue un actor estadounidense.

Biografía

Baxter nació en Columbus (Ohio) en 1889. En 1898, se mudó junto con su madre a San Francisco (California). Luego del terremoto de San Francisco de 1906 su familia tuvo que vivir en una tienda por dos semanas. En 1910, Baxter empezó a actuar en vodevil y, más tarde, en teatro.

Baxter inició su carrera cinematográfica como un extra. Tuvo su primer papel protagónico en 1921 en la película Sheltered Daughters. Durante los años 1920 actuó en 48 películas. Su actuación más famosa fue como Cisco Kid en In Old Arizona, papel por el que recibió el Óscar al mejor actor. También actuó en Grand Canary , Broadway Bill y Kidnapped

Para 1936, Baxter era el actor mejor pagado de Hollywood, pero para 1943 había pasado a realizar películas de clase B. Protagonizó una serie de película del Crime Doctor para Columbia Pictures.

Entre 1914 y 1950, Baxter realizó más de cien películas. Estuvo casado con la actriz Winifred Bryson desde 1918 hasta su muerte.

Baxter sufría de artritis, por lo que se realizó una lobotomía para reducir el dolor. Murió poco después de neumonía y fue enterrado en el Forest Lawn Memorial Park en Glendale (California).
