Rinpoche o Rimpoche (Tibetano) es un título honorífico de carácter religioso utilizado frecuentemente dentro del Budismo Tibetano. Rinpoche literalmente significa precioso. Es un título generalmente reservado para los tulkus (lamas reencarnados) y para aquellos reconocidos por las autoridades respectivas como Lamas de confianza o Lamas de gran estima.

Rinpoche, epíteto de Tulku, significa, aquel que ha tomado un renacimiento intencionalmente en el samsara para beneficiar a los seres sintientes en su camino a la iluminación. Algunas veces este título es dado a los maestros espirituales, que no son necesariamente Tulkus, pero que son altamente estimados por sus estudiantes.

Rinpoches notables

En Tíbet y Bután, cuando se utiliza como "Guru Rinpoche" se refiere a Padmasambhava, quien fue el primero que llevó el Budismo Tibetano a los Himalayas. Cuando se utiliza como Je Rinpoche, se refiere a Je Tsongkhapa, el fundador de la escuela Gelug.

Uso excesivo del término

Históricamente hablando el título de "Rinpoche" puede ser considerado como sobre utilizado y significa poco más que algo de respeto, especialmente en aquellos casos donde el título es auto aplicado.
