Old Fashioned

El old fashioned (pasado de moda en inglés) es un cóctel a base de whiskey rye (de centeno) o bourbon (de maíz). El clásico vaso bajo de whisky lleva el nombre de este trago.

La receta es la siguiente

  • 4 partes de whisky rye, bourbon, o blended.
  • 1 terrón o una cucharada sopera al ras de azúcar.
  • 2 gotas de amargo (bitters) de Angostura.
  • 1 golpe de agua o soda.
  • 1 rodaja de naranja.
  • 2 cerezas al maraschino.
  • 1 cáscara de limón.

Poner el azúcar en el fondo de un vaso bajo, añadir el amargo de Angostura y agua. Mezclar hasta que se disuelva el azúcar. Con este almíbar pintar todo el vaso. Añadir la rodaja de naranja apretándola un poco para soltar algo de jugo. Añadir los cubos de hielo, servir el whisky y remover. Terminar con una espiral de limón (opcional) y 2 cerezas al maraschino.

Algunos lo prefieren solo con la espiral de limón o sin las cerezas o con un poco de soda la final pero eso es gusto del consumidor.


El viejo libro del Bar Waldorf-Astoria de 1931 le da el crédito de su invención, o al menos su inspiración, al Coronel James Pepper, propietario del old 1776 whiskey. El coronel era miembro del club donde por primera vez se preparó la mezcla.
