Montbrison es una localidad y comuna de Francia, en la región de Ródano-Alpes, departamento de Loira. Es la subprefectura del distrito y cabecera del cantón de Montbrison.

Para los censos de 1962 a 1999 la población legal corresponde a la población sin duplicidades, según define el INSEE.

Su población municipal en 2007 era de 15 010 habitantes, 3 674 de ellos en la commune associée de Moingt.[3] La aglomeración urbana incluye también las comunas de Savigneux, Lézigneux, Écotay-l'Olme y Saint-Thomas-la-Garde, y tiene una población de 21 364 habitantes.[6]

Está integrada en la Communauté d'agglomération Loire-Forez, de la que es la mayor población.
