Makapansgat es un yacimiento arqueológico dentro del valle de Makapansgat, al noreste de Potgietersrus en la provincia de Limpopo, Sudáfrica, que forma parte de la Cuna de la Humanidad, del lugar Patrimonio de la Humanidad designado por la Unesco desde el año 2005. Es un importante lugar paleontológico[1] con depósitos de Australopithecus que se remontan a alrededor 3 millones de años.

Historia

La minería de caliza de los años 1920 revelaron restos fosilizados. Las primeras excavaciones en Makapansgat se hicieron en el año 1947 por Raymond Dart.

Hallazgos

Muchos fósiles de Australopithecus fueron descubiertos.[2] También uno de los ejemplos más tempranos de manuport[3] el canto de Makapansgat fue descubierto en Makapansgat.
