Lutsk (en ucraniano Луцьк, en ruso Луцк, en polaco Łuck) es el centro administrativo de la óblast de Volyn en Ucrania. Primera mención en el año 1085. Población: 220 000 habitantes.

Concerniente al nombre de la ciudad hay tres teorías: 1) el nombre proviene de eslavo antiguo luka (celadas del flujo), 2) la ciudad ha sido nombrada en favor de Luka, el caudillo de la tribu esclava dulebos, el cual vivía en la región, 3) el nombre proviene de luchanos, la rama de la tribu eslava de delubos.

Demografía

La mayoría predominante de la población son ucranianos. Entre otras naciones que viven en la ciudad se puede mencionar a rusos, polacos, romanís y caucasianos.

Antes de la segunda guerra mundial existía una importante comunidad judía, desaparecida producto de la persecución y exterminio realizado por el nazismo.

Economía

La economía de la ciudad se recupera de la recesión con avances grandes. Hay una cantidad alta de bancos nuevos que han aparecido recientemente.
