Luke, yo soy tu padre

"Luke, you soy tu padre" ("Luke, I am your father") es una frase proveniente del film Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back, y es pronunciada por el personaje Darth Vader dirigiéndose a Luke Skywalker. Fue elegida por el sitio Lovefilm como la frase más memorable de la historia del cine.[1] A menudo es citada como arquetipo de los giros argumentales inesperados.

Los personajes de Luke Skywalker y Darth Vader aparecen por primera vez en la película Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. En la misma Darth Vader y Obi-Wan Kenobi son los únicos sobrevivientes de una extinta orden conocida como los Jedis. Darth Vader trabaja para un imperio intergaláctico, y Obi-Wan Kenobi instruye a su sobrino Luke Skywalker en las técnicas Jedis. Kenobi relata a Luke que Vader había matado a su padre, quien había sido otro Jedi, y más adelante Vader mata a Kenobi.

En Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back se añade a un nuevo personaje, el emperador Darth Sidious, que maneja la Fuerza a un nivel superior al de Vader y posee autoridad sobre él. Previendo que Skywalker podría convertirse en una amenaza solicita a Vader que lo mate, pero éste sugiere intentar obligarlo a unirse a ellos. Para lograrlo organiza una trampa para atraer a Skywalker hasta él, y le propone unirse para gobernar juntos la galaxia. Luke se niega, afirmando que él mató a su padre. En dicho momento Vader revela a Luke que eso no es cierto, ya que él es su padre.

Cita exacta

Aunque la frase suele ser citada como "Luke, yo soy tu padre", es una cita inexacta. La cita original que pronunció David Prowse y que en la versión en castellano llevaba la inconfundible voz de Constantino Romero, es la siguiente:

  • Darth Vader: "Obi-Wan has never told you what has happened with your father."
  • Luke Skywalker: "He told me enough! He told me you killed him!"
  • Darth Vader: "No. I am your father"

Y la traducción al español fue:

  • Darth Vader: "Obi-Wan no te dijo lo que le pasó a tu padre."
  • Luke Skywalker: "Me dijo lo suficiente! Dijo que tu le mataste!"
  • Darth Vader: "No. Yo soy tu padre"
