WWE King of the Ring

El King of the Ring es un torneo anual de la empresa de lucha libre World Wrestling Entertainment realizado por primera vez en el año 1985. Desde el 1993 hasta el 2002 el torneo formó parte de un evento de pago por visión bajo el mismo nombre. Luego de cuatro años de receso, el torneo de Rey del Ring regresó en el 2006 como un evento exclusivo de la marca Smackdown!. El King of The Ring volvería a desaparecer terminando su edición 2008, hasta su reincorporación en el año 2010 siendo evento tanto de Raw como de SmackDown!

La primera edición del torneo se celebró en 1985, dando como ganandor a Don Muraco. Durante los siguientes años se siguió celebrando el torneo como un torneo normal, hasta que en 1993, se creó un evento PPV para albergar este torneo. Con el paso de los años, el torneo pasó de celebrarse únicamente en el PPV para darse algunas luchas en los programas televisivos de la WWE, RAW SmackDown! Esta situación duró hasta 2002, cuando se celebró el último PPV de King of the Ring, eliminándose durante varios años el torneo. En 2006, se volvió a celebrar el torneo king of the Ring como un torneo exlusivo de la marca, SmackDown! En 2008 se celebró otra edición, esta vez entre ambas marcas.

Con motivo de la victoria, muchos luchadores usaron un apodo o se cambiaron el nombre a uno relacionado con la realeza. Por ejemplo, Booker T (2006) cambió su nombre a King Booker, Randy Savage (1987) cambió su apodo de Macho Man a Macho King, Owen Hart (1994) empezó a usar el apodo de The King of Harts, Edge uso el apodo King Edge the Awesome y finalmente Sheamus (2010) se apodó King Sheamus.
