John Augustus Roebling.

John Augustus Roebling (12 de junio de 1806, Mühlhausen - 22 de julio de 1869, Brooklyn, Nueva York) fue un ingeniero civil estadounidense de origen alemán que fue pionero en el diseño de puentes colgantes.

Llegó a los Estados Unidos en 1831 y entre los años 1850 y 1860, construyó cuatro puentes colgantes junto a su hijo Washington A. Roebling: dos en Pittsburgh, uno en las cataratas del Niágara (1855) y otro más en Cincinnati (1866).

No obstante es mejor conocido por su trabajo en el Puente de Brooklyn, proyecto que planeó y diseñó para comunicar Brooklyn con Manhattan. Sin embargo Roebling murió de una lesión que sufrió en un accidente cuando recién había iniciado la construcción, así que su hijo continuó la obra en 1883; quien a su vez quedó incapacitado desde 1872 por el síndrome de descompresión, siendo finalmente su esposa Emily Warren Roebling quien concluyó el puente.
