Rabino José (Yosef) ben Efrén (Efraim) Caro es uno de los más importantes líderes religiosos de la historia de la Halajá. Caro nació en España o en Portugal en el año 1488; falleció en Safed, Palestina otomana en 1575[1] .

Caro es el autor del libro Shulján Aruj.
