«If It's Lovin' What You Want» es una canción escrita por Samuel Barnes, Scott LaRock, Riddick Makeba, Mosely Alexsander, Oliver Jean-Claude y Parker Lawrence para el álbum debut de la cantante Rihanna, Music of the Sun (2005). Fue lanzado el 28 de noviembre de 2005 como segundo sencillo del álbum.

Antecedentes

Producido por Poke & Tone de Trackmasters, la canción mid-tempo es de acuerdo a Rihanna, una instrucción para un hombre: «If It's Lovin' That You Want, you should make me your girl because I've got what you need/ Si es la amante que deseas, deberias hacerme tu chica porque tengo lo que necesitas». Si es lovin 'que desea, usted debe hacerme tu chica, porque tengo lo que necesitas".^[1] Una secuela, «If It's Lovin' That You Want - Parte 2» (con Cory Gunz), se incluyó en el segundo álbum de Rihanna, A Girl Like Me (2006). Esa versión fue presentada en el episodio piloto de la serie de televisión Gossip Girl. La canción samples «The Bridge Is Over» de Boogie Down Productions.

Rendimiento comercial

Fue lanzada como el segundo sencillo del álbum después de «Pon de Replay» y alcanzó el puesto número treinta y seis en el Billboard Hot 100. Tuvo más éxito a escala mundial, alcanzando los primeros cinco puestos en Polonia y Eslovaquia, entre los diez primeros puestos en Australia y Nueva Zelanda y el número once en UK Singles Chart, sino que también se convirtió en su primer número uno en las Filipinas. «If It's Lovin' That You Want» fue el segundo sencillo y el último lanzado de Music of the Sun y El sencillo ha vendido 500.000 descargas digitales pagadas en los Estados Unidos, según Nielsen Soundscan.

Video Musical

El video musical de la canción fue filmado en un tramo de la playa en la costa de California, por el director Marcus Raboy, y el baile fue coreografiada por Fatima Robinson. Rihanna declaró: «El video es para divertirse, emitiendo el ambiente del Caribe, y sólo estoy bailando a la cámara como si fuera mi novio. Fue increíble». Escenas del video muestran una hoguera, Rihanna bailando y en un jet ski, que tuvo que aprender a montar.
