Graeme Craig Smith (nacido el 1 de febrero de 1981 en Johannesburgo) es un sudafricano cricketer, y el actual capitán del equipo de cricket de Sudáfrica, después de la salida de Shaun Pollock después de la Copa Mundial de Cricket 2003.

Un alto, zurdo bateador apertura hizo 277 puntos, es el más alto individuales entradas que jamás se ha hecho para el Sudafrica, y 259 es el puntaje más alto que jamás se ha hecho en el Señor por un jugador extranjero.

Conocido por el éxito de su asociación con el apertura de Herschelle Gibbs,en Sudafrica cada vez más prolífico la asociación de apertura,Smith tiene la distinción de haber sido parte de los cuatro de sudafrica,la apertura de las asociaciones de más de 300 pistas:En tres de ellos fue asociado de Gibbs, y en 2008 Smith añade 415 para el primer wickets con Neil McKenzie contra Bangladesh, un récord mundial de la apertura de la asociación.

Primeros años

Nacido y criado en Johannesburgo sus padres Graham y Janet, Smith se educó en el King Edward VII Escuela. Smith tiene un hermano menor llamado Gavin. Smith jugó tres menores de 19s ensayos y un día siete internacionales para Sudafrica Sub-19s de los cuales cinco fueron en la Copa del Mundo de Cricket menores de 19. Smith también se adjudicó el sudafricano Cricketer del año "por sus actuaciones en la 2001-02 temporada de cricket de Sudafrica.

Controversias

Smith fue acusado una vez por todas las Indias Occidentales-redondo Dwayne Bravo de abusos raciales, pero fue absuelto de las acusaciones. Él, sin embargo, ha sido sancionado en varias ocasiones por el Consejo Internacional de Cricket de diversas infracciones. Ha tenido una relación difícil con el bateador ingles Kevin Pietersen nacido en Sudafrica. Graeme Smith dijo una vez: "Estoy patriótico sobre mi país, y por eso no me gusta Kevin Pietersen".
