Francis Baily (28 de abril de 1774 - 30 de agosto de 1844)

Astrónomo inglés cuyo nombre está unido al fenómeno conocido como Granos de Baily, que son puntos luminosos con apariencia de diamantes, visibles durante el eclipse de Sol. Esto es debido a que el disco de la Luna, en tales circunstancias no cubre exactamente el disco solar, dejando filtrar alrededor de su circunferencia brillos de luz. Se dedicó también a una actividad que comprendía el estudio y la difusión en el mundo anglosajón de muchas obras clásicas de astronomía, como los catálogos estelares de Tycho Brahe, Hevelius y Flamsteed.
