"For No One" es una canción escrita por Paul McCartney (aunque se atribuye a Lennon/McCartney) que aparece originalmente el el séptimo álbum de los Beatles, Revolver. Está inspirada en la ruptura de McCartney con Jane Asher. La canción termina abruptamente, así como la relación que describe. El título original de la canción fue "Why Did It Die?" ("¿Por qué se murió?"), en una clara referencia a la relación con Asher.

Escritura y grabación de la canción

Paul McCartney escribió la canción en los Alpes Suizos. Se grabó en mayo durante los días 9, 16 y 19 en 1966. Paul cantó, tocó el clavicordio, (traído por George Martin de su hogar), el piano y el bajo, mientras Ringo tocó la batería y la tamborina. El solo de cuerno inglés (English horn) fue interpretado por Alan Civil. Paul quería incluir este instrumento porque siempre le había gustado, por lo que habló con George Martin y este quiso traer al mejor intérprete posible. Cuando Civil terminó de interpretar el excelente solo, Paul se atrevió a decirle que estaba bien, pero que podía hacerlo mejor. Finalmente, fue esa primera toma la que se utilizó.
