Fear of the Dark[4] es el noveno álbum de estudio de la banda de la Nueva ola del heavy metal británico Iron Maiden, salió a la venta el día 11 de mayo de 1992 figurando como número 2 en el ranking británico.

El álbum arrojó tres sencillos, "Be Quick or Be Dead" (lanzado el 13 de abril del mismo año, ubicándose en el número 2 del ranking), "From Here to Eternity" (lanzado el 29 de junio, quedando en el puesto número 21) y "Wasting Love" en el mes de septiembre.

Este álbum marca un importante hito: sería el último que grabarían con Bruce Dickinson hasta su reunión para el Brave New World, el vocalista sería reemplazado por un viejo conocido de la banda, Blaze Bayley.

Cualquiera que conozca la discografía de Iron Maiden (aunque sea de manera visual) notará de inmediato que Eddie the Head (el icono del grupo) que aparece en la portada no es el caricaturesco de siempre que vimos en las portadas de discos anteriores. Eso es debido a que el creador del personaje, Derek Riggs, no participó en el diseño de la ilustración, fue sustituido por Melvyn Grant (el mismo que dibujaría la portada del álbum Virtual XI).

Temática

Al igual que el Eddie, el álbum mantiene un tinte bastante oscuro, relatando escenas desde la pobreza en un barrio de Londres "Childhood's End", hasta la corrupción en el mundo político y empresarial "Be Quick or Be Dead".

Se destaca la balada romántica "Wasting Love", los característicos riffs heavymetaleros de "From Here to Eternity", tema que es el cuarto capítulo de la saga de "Charlotte the Harlot", que produjo Dave Murray en el disco Iron Maiden; y el tema "Fear of the Dark", que es uno de los temas más recordados de Iron Maiden
