Edward Harrison es Profesor Emérito de Física y Astronomía en la Universidad de Massachusetts. Nació en Inglaterra, y sirvió en la Armada Británica durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Escribió varios libros y artículos sobre Astronomía y Cosmología. Los textos más conocidos son: Cosmology : The Science of the Universe, Masks of the Universe: Changing Ideas on the Nature of the Cosmos (ganador del premio Frederic G. Melcher otorgado a libros que promueven la libertad religiosa) y Darkness at Night : A Riddle of the Universe (en el que se explica la solución a la paradoja de Olbers).
