Aceldama es el nombre del campo que Judas Iscariote compró con las treinta monedas que recibió por vender a Jesús. Otra versión quiere que Judas, tras devolver el dinero, se ahorcó en un campo con ese nombre que fue comprado por los sacerdotes con el dinero devuelto, para darle sepultura y dársela, también, a extranjeros transeúntes. El nombre quiere decir "campo de sangre", que bien podría referirse a la sangre de Jesús o a la de Judas. El campo se llamaba, también, "campo del alfarero", pues de él se extraía tierra roja ("campo de sangre") muy adecuada para ese trabajo.
