Carter Burwell (n. 18 de noviembre de 1955) es un compositor estadounidense de música cinematográfica.

Como compositor, Burwell ha tenido una larga relación de trabajo con los hermanos Coen, encargándose de la banda sonora para cada una de sus películas. También ha trabajado en películas del director Spike Jonze. Además de su trabajo junto a los Coen, ha compuesto música para And the Band Played On (1993), Conspiración (1997), Hamlet (2000), The Spanish Prisoner (1997), y Before the Devil Knows You're Dead (2007).

Burwell se casó en 1999 con Christine Sciulli.

Toco en una banda llamada Thick Pigeon with Stanton Miranda, el grupo lanzó dos álbums, Too Crazy Cowboys y Miranda Dali.
