Brownies.

Un brownie (literalmente ‘marroncito’), también conocido como brownie de chocolate, es un pastel de chocolate pequeño y sabroso, parecido a una galleta, típico de la cocina estadounidense. Se llama así por su color marrón oscuro. A veces se cubre con fudge (jarabe espeso de chocolate) y puede llevar dentro trocitos de nueces, chocolate, butterscotch (una especie de toffee crujiente), mantequilla de cacahuete. Se cree que la primera mención a un brownie es la que aparece en el catálogo 1897 de Sears and Roebuck.

Origen

Se cree que los brownies fueron descubiertos por accidente, cuando un cocinero descuidado que intentaba hacer un pastel de chocolate olvidó usar levadura. Hay muchas recetas diferentes para los brownies, y las versiones sencillas sirven a menudo como introducción a la repostería.

Presentación

Los brownies suelen servirse calientes con helado (lo que se designa comúnmente como brownie à la mode) y a veces con nata montada (o incluso crème double), especialmente como postre en los restaurantes. La popularidad del brownie estadounidense ha crecido hasta superar sus fronteras, y puede encontrarse en muchas pastelerías de Europa. Los brownies también se comercializan en algunos restaurantes en Japón como novedad, normalmente en restaurantes temáticos.

Variantes

Los blondies son brownies hechos con azúcar moreno y sin cacao, que pueden contener trocitos de chocolate blanco, nueces y otros dulces.
