Superman: The Movie de 1978

Se lanzó junto con la película en 1978 por Warner Bros. Records, en dos discos debido a lo extenso de la partitura, y aun así no contenía toda la musicalización en buena medida porque la publicación de la correspondiente música aún no era práctica muy frecuente en esos días.

Superman III de 1983

Se lanzó junto con la película en 1983 por Warner Bros. Records en un disco, pero con sólo una mínima parte de la musicalización en el lado A, mientras en el lado B se incluyeron cinco piezas producidas por el músico italiano vanguardista Giorgio Moroder, cuatro cantadas y su versión sintetizada del cierre de créditos.

Su lanzamiento en formato digital fue hasta la colección del 2008.

Ediciones en CD

Superman: The Movie de 1990

Fue la primer edición de la música de la película original de 1978 en CD, lanzada hasta 1990 en que ya había predominancia del formato digital por Warner Bros. Records en un único disco; se supone que es la edición en CD del LP original pero sólo contiene 14 de las 16 piezas de aquélla edición, sin embargo éste es el más fácil de encontrar actualmente disponible.

Superman por John Debney

En 1998 se publicó por el sello Varèse Sarabande, en dos discos, la reinterpretación de la banda sonora del primer filme de 1978, conducida esta vez por el también músico de películas John Debney y ejecutada por la Real Orquesta Nacional de Escocia, incluyendo por vez primera en cualquier otro lanzamiento música adicional basada en notas sobrevivientes de las partituras originales de Williams para el filme, pues el resto se perdió.

Superman: The Ultimate Collection

Fue un álbum lanzado en 1999, vía Varèse Sarabande, como un proyecto concebido e impulsado por el músico Randy Miller, quien hizo los arreglos y asimismo condujo la orquesta reinterpretando varias de las musicalizaciones de Superman para películas, series de televisión, teatro e incluso de sus primeros cortos animados.

Superman: The Movie del 2000

En el año 2000 nuevamente se publicó la música de la película de 1978 por Rhino Records, en dos discos. Es una versión expandida con la masterización del álbum original y lo que según se manejó eran los elementos rescatados para reconstruir una edición larga de lo que fue la partitura total de Williams para el filme. Esta edición actualmente está agotada, sin embargo en servicios de compra por Internet aún se le encuentra.

Sound of Superman de 2006

Fue el primero de dos discos de acompañamiento para el filme Superman Returns, en la forma de un tradicional soundtrack, con varias canciones inspiradas por el personaje interpretadas por diversos músicos, lo curioso es que la mitad de los temas son covers pues son canciones que existían desde hace años, mientras las restantes fueron compuestas especialmente con motivo de la película.

Se lanzó sólo un par de semanas antes que el score de John Ottman, el cual fue el segundo disco, por Rhino / Wea. Tan sólo vendió 400,000 copias, un relativo fracaso igual al filme.

Superman: The Music (1978-1988)

Como su nombre indica, es una colección en 8 CD de Film Score Monthly, publicada en febrero de 2008 compilando por vez primera las partituras de las cuatro películas originales en seis discos, así como un séptimo con la música de Ron Jones para la caricatura Superman de 1988, quien abiertamente se había basado en las composiciones de John Williams, y un octavo disco con material adicional.
