Skeptics in the Pub es un evento social informal diseñado para promover la amistad y las redes sociales entre personas escépticas, críticas y librepensadoras.

Provee una oportunidad para racionalistas de intercambiar ideas en una atmósfera relajada, así como las discusiones en todo tipo de temas, así como momento de ocio a la vez que se promueve el escepticismo, la ciencia y la racionalidad

El formato más usual es aquel en que una persona es invitada a hablar sobre un tema específico y se continúa con una sesión de preguntas y respuestas, a partir de ahí se generan debates. Las quedadas son mensuales y a día de hoy existen más de 50 de estos encuentros "SitP" por todo el mundo.[1]

Historia

El primer grupo y más veterano[2] es el London meeting, fundado por Scott Campbell en 1999, siendo[3] [4] [5] el que sigue una mayor regularidad, con unas 200 personas asistiendo en cada sesión.[6] [7] [8] Scott Campbell basó la idea en Philosophy in the Pub y Science in the Pub, dos grupos que habían funcionado en Australia tiempo atrás.[9] El speaker que inauguró el evento fue el fundador la editora y fundadora de la revista The Skeptic, Wendy M. Grossman en febrero de 1999.
