Little Miss Muffet o la señorita Muffet es una rima infantil.

Who sat down beside her
And frightened Miss Muffet away

En español:

La señorita Muffet
Sentada en un taburete,
Comia su cuajada y suero de leche;
A lo largo de ella vino araña,
Quién se sentó a su lado

La rima apareció por primera vez en versión impresa en 1805, en un libro titulado "Canciones para el Vivero". Al igual que muchas rimas, sus orígenes no están claros. Algunos dicen que fue escrito por el entomólogo Inglés Dr. Thomas Muffet (D.1604) en el siglo XVI, Para sus hijastras. Otros afirman que se refiere a María, Reina de Escocia (1543-1587), quien se decía que había sido asustada por el reformador religioso John Knox (1510-1572). La primera explicación es especulativa y el segundo es puesto en duda por la mayoría de los estudiosos de la literatura, que toman en cuenta que las historias que unen los cuentos populares o canciones a los acontecimientos políticos son a menudo leyendas urbanas.
