Argumento

El rico ganadero Matt Deveraux (Spencer Tracy) hace una incursión en las tierras de un minero de cobre, que al fundir el mineral contamina las aguas del río que precisa para su ganado. Más tarde divide su propiedad entre sus hijos. De éstos, Joe (Robert Wagner) asume la responsabilidad por el asalto a las tierras del minero, lo que le lleva a la cárcel por tres años. Durante este tiempo el padre muere, y Joe jura venganza en cuanto salga de prisión.
