Xanthorhiza es un género con una especie de planta de flores perteneciente a la familia Ranunculaceae. Se distribuye por Norteamérica desde Nueva Inglaterra a Florida donde crece en lugares húmedos y umbríos cerca del agua.

Es un arbusto con rizoma perenne que alcanza los 90 cm de altura. Las hojas y flores se producen solo en la parte alta del tallo. Las hojas son alternas y cada una dividida en 5 lóbulos dentados. Las flores son pequeñas de color púrpura-marrón y se producen en la primavera tardía.
