Whopper es una hamburguesa comercializada por la cadena de restaurantes de comida rápida Burger King. Se denomina así a un conjunto de sándwiches de diversos tamaños y configuraciones. El contenido de esta hamburguesa es de una porción de carne de ternera hecha a fuego entre dos rebanadas de pan, tomate, hojas de lechuga, cebolla, rodajas de pepinillos encurtidos al eneldo. Las salsas de acompañamiento varían según los países, pero lo más habitual es encontrarla acompañada con mostaza, kétchup y mayonesa en la rebanada superior. Remarcable es el hecho de que al ser la hamburguesa principal de Burger King la forma de hacerla esta perfectamente definida. A la Whopper perfecta se denomina "Whopper oro". Dependiendo de la oferta del restaurante hoy en día también se ofrecen Whopper con dos o tres porciones de carne acompañadas opcionalmente con tocino y/o queso.

Historia

La hamburguesa Whopper fue creada en el año 1957 por el fundador de Burger King James McLamore y la vendían en aquel entonces por 37 céntimos. A finales del siglo XX una Whopper (en EE. UU.) varía entre los 99 céntimos (durante promociones) hasta 2.49 USD e incluso más, dependiendo de los precios en los restaurantes.
