Venlo es una municipalidad y ciudad del sureste de los Países Bajos. Está situada en la provincia de Limburgo.

El 1 de enero de 2003 los municipios de Tegelen y Belfeld se unen al de Venlo.

Historia

La historia de Venlo se remonta a tiempos del Imperio romano siendo un puerto importante a orillas del río Mosa.

Durante la Edad Media se convirtió en un importante enclave de la Liga Hanseática teniendo un importante mercado que extendía su influencia por el Limburgo holandés y belga.

En el siglo XVI se convirtió en zona de enfrentamiento entre las tropas del Imperio español y los protestantes de Guillermo de Nassau.

Durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial se convirtió, por su cercanía a la frontera alemana, en una de las primeras ciudades en ser ocupada por las tropas alemanas de la Wehrmacht el 10 de mayo de 1940
