Thomas Shelton el traductor inglés de Miguel de Cervantes publicó su traducción de la primera parte de Don Quijote en 1612, primera a una lengua europea; no utilizó la versión original, sino la publicada en Bruselas en 1607. En 1620 publicó la traducción completa de las dos partes de la novela; a pesar de sus errores, a causa de su defectuoso conocimiento de la lengua original, la versión de Shelton posee aciertos poéticos. James Fitzmaurice-Kelly reimprimió su traducción en 1896.
