Artillery

Artillery es una banda de thrash danesa perteneciente al movimiento thrash metal activo en los años 1980, y fue partícipe en el desarrollo primigenio del género. Su música, altamente enérgica, se caracterizó por el machaque de riffs y la velocidad, al estilo de Metallica y Slayer, también de la época.

Historia

La banda se formó en 1982 en Taastrup, un suburbio de Copenhague. Sus miembros eran: Jürgen Sandau y Michael Stützer en guitarra, Morten Stützer en bajo, Carsten Nielsen en batería y Carsten Lohmann el cantante. El grupo grabó los demos Shellshock y Deeds of darkness en 1984. Carsten Lohmann abandona la banda en 1985 y es sustituido por Flemming Rönsdorf. El mismo año ARTILLERY graba su tercer demo: “Fear of tomorrow” para Neat Records y lanza su primer álbum, también titulado Fear of tomorrow. Su segundo trabajo: “Terror Squad” fue lanzado en 1987. Ambos discos son considerados clásicos de culto en el género del thrash metal, a pesar que no gozaron en su tiempo de una buena distribución por parte de Neat Records alrededor del mundo. El guitarrista Júrgen Sandoau deja la banda en 1989,así es que el bajista Morten Stützer asume su posición y le deja el bajo a la nueva incorporación: Peter Thorslund. Su tercer álbum: “By Inheritance”, fue lanzado en 1990 para Roadrunner Records. Artillery se disolvió en 1991, algunos de sus miembros siguieron con proyectos musicales durante el resto de los 90. Tras la edición en 1998 de una compilación titulada: “Deadly Relics” por el sello Mighty Music, ofreciendo unas mezclas de viejos demos más dos canciones de una cinta promocional de 1989, la banda se reúne para crear su cuarto álbum: “B.A.C.K.” que fue lanzado en 1999 por Diehard Music. En 2007, la banda liberó una edición limitada boxset De 4 CDs titulado “Through the Years”, que contienen los cuatro álbumes de estudio de la banda y todo su material de demostración. El 6 de noviembre de 2007, Michael Stützer confirmó sobre el sitio web oficial de Artillery que ellos eran otra vez activos, tienen conciertos reservados, y ensayan sus viejas canciones (con el nuevo material). Un nuevo álbum de estudio está en la consideración. Sin embargo, el cantante de Artillery de mucho tiempo Flemming la Rönsdorf no está involucrado, y la banda hace una audición para nuevos cantantes. El 27 de noviembre, fue confirmado por el sitio web y por el boletín de noticias oficial, que el cantante Søren Adamsen será el nuevo presentador. El sitio web oficial de Artillery fue puesto al día recientemente, declarando que Artillery viajaría alrededor de varias ubicaciones en Europa durante 2008, y registraría un DVD en vivo durante el Festival MetalMania en Katowice, Polonia.
