Sonchus asper es una especie de planta herbácea perteneciente a la familia de las asteráceas. Es originaria de Europa.

Descripción

Es una planta anual con las hojas espinosas y las flores amarillas. semejante a la del diente de león. Las hojas son de color verde-azuladas, simples, lanceoladas con los márgenes ondulados y a veces lobulados, cubierta de espinas dorsales en ambos márgenes. La base de la hoja rodea el tallo. Alcanza una altura de 180 cm. Las hojas y el tallo segregan una savia lechosa cuando se cortan.

Distribución y hábitat

La planta es nativa de Europa, pero también se encuentran en Norteamérica en los bordes de las carreteras como mala hierba (maleza). Sus hojas son comestibles.

Número de cromosomas de Sonchus asper (Fam. Compositae) y táxones infraespecíficos = Sonchus asper subsp. glaucescens (Jordan) Ball:[2] 2n=18.[3]
