Sinis

Sinis (Σίνις) en la mitologia era un gigante de fuerza extraodinaria, hijo de Poseidón. Se le apodaba "el doblador de pinos", porque tenía la costumbre doblar pinos y atar entre ellos a los viajeros que apresaba; luego soltaba violentamente los árboles, descuartizando así a sus víctimas. Sinis fue uno de los bandidos muertos por Teseo a lo largo del istmo de Corinto, cuando se dirigía a Atenas desde Trecén para ser reconocido por su padre Egeo. Sinis tenía una hija, Perigune, que se había ocultado en una plantación de espárragos cuando Teseo daba muerte a su padre. Luego Perigune se unió al héroe, concibiendo a Melanipo. Melanipo, su hijo Yoxo y sus descendientes mostraron especial devoción por los espárragos, ya que a ellos debían la vida de su antepasada.
