SOHC de 1987

SOHC[1] es un término relacionado con los motores de combustión interna. Son siglas con significado en inglés: Simple Over Head Camshaft, cuya traducción al español es 'Un solo árbol de levas en cabeza', en contraposición a los motores DOHC Double Over Head Camshaft que montan doble árbol de levas.

La principal diferencia, el SOHC con el mismo árbol de levas maneja ambos tipos de válvulas. a diferencia de los motores DOHC, en donde un árbol de levas se usa para las válvulas de admisión y el otro para las de escape.

Los motores SOHC tienden a presentar una menor potencia que los DOHC, aún cuando el resto del motor sea idéntico. Esto se debe a que el hecho de no poder manejar por separado las válvulas de admisión y de escape, le impide configurar de una manera más específica los tiempos de apertura y cierre, y por ende, tiene menor fluidez en la cámara de combustión.
