Ride fue un grupo de lo que se hizo llamar shoegazing, caracterizándose por ser un estilo de melodías muy sentimentales a la par que etéreas y melancólicas y guitarras muy distorsionadas con sonidos no armónicos. Ride como muchos de estos grupos (quizás fue de los menos "atmosféricos" del movimiento, llevándose la palma en este aspecto My Bloody Valentine o Curve), aparte de componer canciones de pop (claramente influenciados por The Smiths), también compuso canciones muy enérgicas, bailables y rápidas si bien manteniendo los niveles melódicos, así como otras más pacíficas y sosegadas.

Se le considera una influencia para varios grupos posteriores de mitad de los años 1990.[cita requerida]

Tras la separación de la banda, los miembros de la banda han formado otros grupos como Hurricane #1, The Animalhouse e incluso hoy en día, Andy Bell, antiguo guitarrista de Ride forma parte de la conocida banda Oasis.

Su álbum más aclamado por crítica y fans es "Nowhere" (1990).
