Richard Crashaw

Richard Crashaw (Londres, hacia 1613 - Loreto, 25 de agosto de 1649), fue un poeta barroco inglés, llamado "el divino"", que formó parte del grupo de poetas metafísicos del siglo XVII.

Su obra poética está inspirada por el misticismo español. Tiene carácter religioso. Es un poeta erudito.

Entre sus obras, puede citarse: Carmen Deo nostro, The flaming heart (himno a Teresa de Jesús), Los placeres de las Musas, Poemas sagredos, Camino del Templo y, sobre todo, Versos escritos en un libro de oraciones, una de las más perfectas poesías de la lírica inglesa.

Fue un traductor muy notable, que se compenetraba con el autor al que traducía. Dentro de esta labor, destacó por su versión inglesa de la obra italiana Sospecha de Herodes, escrita por Marini.

Fue igualmente un excelente orador.
