Richard Brinsley Sheridan nació el 30 de octubre de 1751 en Dublín, Irlanda, en la calle Dorset, n.º 12 (donde nació también el dramaturgo Sean O'Casey); y murió el 7 de julio de 1816 en Savile Row, a la edad de 65 años. Fue político del partido whig en el Reino Unido, dramaturgo reconocido del siglo XVIII y director de teatro.

Vida

Fue bautizado el 4 de noviembre del año 1751. Su padre, Thomas Sheridan, era actor y director del Teatro Real de Dublín; y su madre, Frances Sheridan, era escritora. Murió cuando Richard contaba con 15 años. Perteneció al círculo de doctor Johnson.

Adaptaciones y referencias culturales

En el film "La duquesa" (2008), un biopic de Georgiana Cavendish, Duquesa de Devonshire, Sheridan interviene como personaje y su obra teatral "The School for Scandal", inspirada en el matrimonio de Georgiana, es representada en una fiesta de la nobleza londinense.
